Description
Dr. Heath Bettencourt is a native of the West Bank of New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended the University of New Orleans, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. From there, he attended the Medical School at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, where he graduated in 1996. He went on to complete his residency at both Children’s Hospital and University Hospital in New Orleans. He served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at the University Hospital in New Orleans from 1999-2000.
Dr. Bettencourt is a seasoned pediatrician. He had been in practice for twenty years in Gretna, Louisiana before moving to New York this year. Additionally, he has volunteered at an orphanage in China and helped to develop a baby-friendly breastfeeding initiative and designation at Ochsner West Bank Medical Center in Gretna, Louisiana. Dr. Bettencourt enjoys teaching and has mentored pediatric residents, medical students, nurse practitioner students and physician assistant students for the last thirteen years. He taught Anatomy and Physiology for several semesters at Delgado Community College in New Orleans.
Dr. Bettencourt is an Assistant Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College. In addition to Dr. Bettencourt’s medical interests, he enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and Miniature Dachshund Fox. He plays tennis and appreciates films, the performing arts, books, hiking, cooking, and travelling.
One of his goals was to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, which he completed in 2013. Dr. Bettencourt is excited to be joining the Leaf Medical team and bringing comprehensive pediatric medical care to our Brooklyn community.
