He is certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM).

Dr. Appel earned his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College and completed his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He underwent advanced surgical training at Morristown Medical Center within the Atlantic Health System.
